Just Zip It

A good jacket should be able to last you from season to season. It’s something
that you’re likely to be wearing every day, or on more than one occasion. It is also
something that should complement your style, fit comfortably, and go with pretty
much anything. Comfort and durability are important considerations.

Mens jackets aren’t simply about keeping warm. Chances are, your clothes are going
to be one of the first things people notice about you. They give people the heads
up on who you are, and what your style is. So, taking the time to look around for
something that fits well and looks good is usually time well spent.

Trends come and go – we all know that – and before you know it, you’re beginning
to look like you got dressed in the dark. A clever coat or jacket could be the thing you
need to stay looking cool – whilst keeping warm at the same time.

There are plenty of menswear retailers out there, so there’s little excuse when it
comes to getting the look just right. G Star RAW, Soul Cal and Topshop all provide
excellent men’s clothes. River Island is also a good stop for on trend pieces that
won’t break the bank.

If you’re wondering what colour or shade you should be looking for, think about
where you’re going to wear it. For work and business, navy blue, brown and black
are always going to fit in perfectly. A lighter brown in suede or corduroy will set you
apart, whilst still looking smart.

Bright blazers are very much in this year, and are available in a rainbow of colours
from green to salmon. Whilst these are a great choice for casual wear on a night out,
caution should be advised when it comes to teaming a colourful piece with the rest
of your outfit. If you do choose to go bright, make sure you tone it down with plain
fabrics and muted colours elsewhere.

If you’re just looking for something to wear with everything and anything, take a
look at some of the great zip-up, high neck coats available on the market. These look
great whilst also being masculine and durable. They’ll also keep you dry if things
start to look stormy.

Whatever style you decide to try, this season’s men’s fashion is all about the perfect
fit, so it’s time to move away from baggy or loose clothes. Hoods are fine, but make
sure they work well with the image you’re trying to project. Whilst great for casual
wear, they’re a big no-no for the work place, and should be avoided.

There are plenty of great coats and mens jackets around, whether you’re after
something for the spring, or something that will see you through summer and
autumn as well. A good men’s jacket should complete a look, whatever the weather,
and will keep you looking smart and feeling confident. ;)

Back to School: College App Essay Advice

Use the college app essay to improve your chances of being admitted into the college of your dreams—especially if your test scores, grades and extracurricular activities aren’t as strong. The essay can set you apart from the other applicants at your level, bumping you from a “maybe” to a “definitely.”

Use it to describe your favorite activity, story about yourself, etc. The most important part is capturing the reader’s attention, and the easiest way to do that is to talk about something you’re passionate about.

Since this could be the deciding factor in your admission process, make sure you start early. For me personally, I wrote my first college app essay my freshman year of high school because my English teacher assigned it. After that, I got a lot of practice by writing practice SAT essays, as well as writing college app essay assignments my senior year (I eventually used those for my app!).

If you don’t get the chance to do it your first three years of high school, then do it during the summer before senior year! This gives you time to play around with ideas, as well as get feedback from other people. If you’re not going to be a senior in the fall, just print out the prompts for the universities you’re interested in and start thinking of good topics to write about (as well as activities that you should do so that you can have an awesome activity to write about J).

Five easy steps to writing the essay:
  1. Print out prompts.
  2. Brainstorm topic ideas. (go crazy!)
  3. Select an essay topic.
  4. Write the essay.
  5. Proofread!!! Be sure to have others look at it as well.
  • ·      Write about yourself with your own voice.
  • ·      Be genuine and honest.
  • ·      Be concise. Most prompts have word limits.
  • ·      Provide vivid details.
  • ·      Focus on one aspect about yourself to seem more in-depth and passionate.
  • ·      Mundane topics about your life are A-OK; your essay doesn’t have to be outrageous to be an interesting read.
  • ·      Share opinions, but be sure to back them up with details and facts. Keep in mind your audience (the admissions committee). They read thousands of (boring, typical) applications, so entertain them but don’t offend them.
  • ·      Most importantly, tell a good story! Show how you overcame something of great difficulty, learned something new, became a better person, etc. Write an essay that you yourself would want to read.
It’s super important to focus on the essay because it’s one of the few things you can still control when you apply. Scores, grades, and activities are past things that can’t be changed. The college app essay is your opportunity to show off, and prove that you’re the best choice the college has ever made. Good  luck. J

Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids Beach & Pool Sunscreen - Review

I recently picked up a new sunscreen because I didn't have any sunscreen and I started swimming lessons this week, and because I lost my Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreen. I think  Neutrogena came out with this product around May or June this year, so I assume that this sunscreen is fairly new. If not, my mistake! Today I'll be reviewing Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids Beach & Pool Sunscreen.
